Self-Care Is Not Selfish

In society today we as people are expected to work long hours. We even have the idea in our minds that each day has to be productive. This can hinder the possibilities of self-care. Trying to be productive on a day-to-day basis gets exhausting, your mind and body can become very tiresome and stressed. For that reason, self-care is so important. Taking a couple of hours of each day to practice self-care can reset you back to a healthy point for both your mind and body which can maximize your motivation to be productive.

Self-care has an important part to play in mental health, decreasing stress, anxiety, resentment, depression, minimizing frustration and anger. It also has an important part to play in physical and spiritual health as well. From a perspective of physical health, it is proven to reduce heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Spiritually self-care can help you get to the point of realizing what your purpose is and by praying to the Lord for him to guide you. There are many different reasons why you should practice self-care.

I hope you realize you deserve self-care. You deserve to feel loved by yourself. Taking care of yourself for yourself is not selfish. Don’t take what others say to you personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What people do or say is just a projection of their own reality, opinions, and dreams. When you get used to people’s actions and words you will no longer suffer. Love yourself for yourself. Take care of yourself for yourself.

Why do people say they can’t self-care? The most common reason people say they can’t self-care is because of their lack of time. Self-care is extremely important to your well-being, even if it’s minimal time that you’re taking to self-care. Caring for yourself does not have to cost a single thing and you can do it in your own home. Even if you only spend five minutes engaging in self-care it’s better than nothing.

Remember that self-care is all about you. Just because one self-care practice works for you doesn’t mean it would work for someone else, that is what is amazing about God’s creation. We are all so different. Please do not get discouraged. I encourage you to keep on searching until you find one that works the best for you. Even if you are just starting out you can even realize the results almost immediately. So I encourage everyone to take self-care seriously. I really recommend giving it a try.

Fall In Love With Self-Love

One of the hardest things for us as people to do is to fall in love with who we are. We often feel worthless, not deserving of love, or deserving of anything, and we often overthink compliments. I want you to know that you are worth it, you are deserving of love, and so much more.

You do not need anyone’s approval to be yourself and love who you are. You don’t need anyone’s compliments and affection, all you need is you to be enough. You’re allowed to hold on to the truth that you are enough. And you’re allowed to remove anyone from your life that makes you feel otherwise.

When people abandon, reject, or judge you, it really isn’t about you, it’s about them and their own insecurities and needs, and you don’t need to feel embodied by it. Never let anyone tell you that you are less than you are. We are fearfully and wonderfully made by the Lord. He knows your worth but he wants you to see it too and love yourself as he does.

The Bible says to obey God we have to love ourselves first. “And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these”  Mark 12:31. This verse says we need to love our neighbors as ourselves but if you don’t love yourself you have no love to give away to others.

I encourage you to share your opinions, how you’re feeling, what you need to take the next step, and feel free to reach out to me or anyone you feel like you can trust. If you found this post helpful let’s share it and help some others. Feel free to let me know if you think I could have done better and give me your opinions. Next, we’ll discuss self care.
